How to View & Check Instagram Insights

In today’s video, we are going to explore how to view & check Instagram insights.

Instagram insights are a native analytics tool that provides data on the demographics of followers, their actions (likes & comments) as well as the reach of your content. This information makes it easy to compare content measure campaigns and see how individual posts are performing.

Before we understand how Instagram insights work, I would like to show your from where you can change your personal Instagram account to a creator or business account. For this, open your Instagram profile and then click on the three lines that you see on the top left corner.

Once you click those lines at the bottom of the page, you will see the settings tab. On the settings tab, click on “Account.” Inside this tab, if you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see “Switch to Business Account” and “Switch to Personal Account.”

Here, if you have a personal account you can change your account into a business or a creator account. Currently, I have a creator account. Once you switch your account to a business or creater account, you can view Instagram insights.

Now, coming back to our Instagram profile, we can see the option of insights right in the center of the page. If you click on insights, you can see the insights of all of your posts & stories that you have posted over the past seven days. You won’t be able to see the information right away. You will have to wait for at least seven days for the information to appear here.

The first option that I see in the insights tab is “Overview.” Here, I can see the accounts that I have reached in the past seven days. Here you can see it says 1,623 accounts, which is 81.9% more than what I had in the past seven days.

Once you open the “Accounts Reach” tab, you can see a bar graph that depicts the accounts that your page has reached in the entire week. Below that, you can see the impressions that your page has received, the account activity that shows the profile visits, website tabs, and email button taps.

Below that you can see the top stories, top posts, and top IGTV videos. As you can see, I haven’t uploaded any posts or IGTV videos in the past seven days, hence there is no data in the top posts or IGTV section. However, in my top stories section, I can see that some stories have been uploaded. If you click on this “Top Stories” tab, you can see all the stories that I have posted in the past 7 days as well as the views that I have received on each story.

Now, the second option in the overview is the “Content Interaction” tab. You can see that it is 48 in the past 7 days, which is already 200% more than the previous week. Once you open the “Content Interactions” tab, you can see the data regarding all the interactions that your page has received. In my case, I have received 200 on story interactions because, as I mentioned earlier, I have uploaded no posts or IGTV videos in the past week.

The last tab in the overview section is the “Total followers” tab. My total followers are 1987, which is already 0.7 percent more as compared to the previous week. If I open that tab, I can see the follower breakdown.

As you can see, the overall growth of followers on my page is 15 followers in the past week. If you scroll down a little bit, you can see a chart that shows that I have received more than 5 followers on Saturday, Sunday, Monday & Tuesday, and 1 follower on Wednesday & Thursday. Someone unfollowed me on Friday, and my followers increased by almost 10 on Saturday.

If you scroll even further down, you can see the top locations from where your audience is, their age range, gender, etc. The top location is classified into 2 tabs – cities & countries. As I am from Pune, I can see that most of my followers are from Pune, and a few from Mumbai, Satara, Nagpur, and Delhi. If I click on the countries tab, which is right next to cities, I can see that most of my followers (94%) are from India and 1.4% are from the U.S., Australia, Canada, and the UK.

Just below the “Top Locations” tab, you can see the age range of the audience on my page. By default, the age range is set for “All” at the moment. However, we can toggle between the data of men and women. For instance, if I click on “men,” I can see that 25 to 34 is the age range for the maximum percentage of the male followers of my account. If I click on “women,” I can see that the age range of most of my women followers is 18 to 24 years.

If you scroll further down, you can see the gender of your audience. In my case, I have 83% men and 17% women. Personally, I would have liked this to be a 50-50 ratio, but this is what I have at the moment! In this case, I will have to focus on my efforts to increase the number of female followers.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will find the most important tab in the Instagram insights. This is the tab that shows the most active times of your audience. Indicates exactly on which days your audience is most active as well as the hours on each day when they are active.

If we toggle the date, we can that Sunday is when my audience is most active on Instagram. I can also see that daily, at around 9:00 pm, my audience is most active. Hence, it means that on Sundays, if I upload at 9:00 pm, I am likely to get maximum engagement.
